In the 1920s, escalating tensions between Britain and Ireland eventually erupt into the Irish War of Independence. Damien, a promising medical student, abandons his studies to join the fight upon learning of the outbreak of war. He returns to his homeland and, together with his brother Teddy and their friend Dan, enlists in the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Fueled by passion and employing clever tactics, the young rebels repeatedly thwart the efforts of the British government-employed Black and Tans militia. Their resistance eventually forces the British to agree to a treaty—yet this very victory becomes a point of division that splits former comrades onto separate paths...
