In 1930, a shocking kidnapping and murder case occurred in New York. The mastermind, Cassetti, escaped with the ransom. Five years later, detective Hercule Poirot crossed the Bosphorus by boat and, arranged by a friend, boarded the Orient Express bound for London. One early morning, Poirot was awakened by a cry from the adjacent compartment No. 10. Shortly afterward, the train was forced to stop in Yugoslavia due to snowdrifts blocking the tracks. Poirot had only just fallen asleep again when he was roused by commotion. The wealthy lady Harriet Belinda Hubbard claimed that Ratchett, the millionaire in compartment No. 10, had sneaked into her compartment No. 11. At dawn, Beddoes, Ratchett’s valet, brought drinks but found the door to compartment No. 10 locked. The conductor, Pierre Paul Michel, unlocked it with a key, but the door was chained from the inside. Poirot and Pierre forced the door open together and found Ratchett dead with blood at the corner of his mouth, his eyes wide open. Upon examination by Dr. Constantine, it was determined that Ratchett had been drugged and stabbed 12 times, with the time of death between midnight and 2 a.m....
