Lt. Vincent Hanna, a Los Angeles detective, is fully dedicated to his work but struggles with marital discord. Neil McCauley, a ruthless gangster, is a top target of the police. Neil, who intended to retire from his life of crime, suffers heavy losses among his men due to betrayal by an accomplice during his final bank heist. Though he could have fled with his girlfriend Edie, he resolutely turns back to seek revenge— leading to a final showdown with the relentless Vincent Hanna.
